First annual KYFA special needs football tournament.
The football tournament for the mentally challenged children will take place on 26th june 2009 at Moi stadium, Kisumu city, Kenya. The event will be the first of its kind to be organised in Kisumu town.
The special needs tournament aims at providing an opportunity for the marginalised children to showcase their talents and to also have fun by socializing with their peers and share their experiences.
The one day event will be through the support and sponsorship of local organisations such as Coca Cola Kenya Western region, Mayfair Bakeries Nyanza, the District office for Youth Affairs and the District Education office.

Sports offer a unique arena in which children can earn attention and respect by exerting their natural abilities. According to researchers at the Institute for the Study of Youth Sports at Michigan State University, kids who participate in organized sports do better in school, have better interpersonal skills, are more team oriented, and are generally healthier. The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights recommends that all children with disabilities enjoy full human rights on an equal basis with other children. (Article 7)
